I was born with poisonous silver spines. One touch could kill. The midwife died the moment she tried to hold me. By four, I was hunting lions with my spikes, feeding a pack too poor to survive without me. By five, I was killing unjust Alphas, powerful wolves who crushed weak slaves beneath them. My pack didn’t call me a curse. They called me a blessing. They believed I would one day rule the werewolf realm. Then one day, the sky turned red. It wasn’t a normal solar eclipse. The moon darkened, the clouds split open, and it began to rain—not water, but a thick red poison. Every drop killed on contact. The land turned barren. And my silver spikes dissolved like they had never existed. I watched my entire pack die in front of me. I was powerless, barely able to crawl to my dying mother. She pressed a sealed letter into my hands and whispered, “You will save the werewolf realm. Keep this letter safe. When the time comes, it will take you where you belong.” she died infront of me. As I sobbed beside her body, a silver light filled the sky, and a heavenly voice blessed me, “Talia, you are the Moon Goddess’s child. At eighteen, your true power will awaken. With your mate, you will rule the werewolf world.” That night, I slept on my mother’s corpse. And I woke up being dragged to the world’s worst orphanage. Everyone there hated me. The children called me cursed, said I was a pack-eater, said I killed my mother. The warden made me scrub floors and wash dishes like I was nothing. One night, after finishing my chores, I returned to my room and saw Marcy—my roommate—holding the letter I had never opened. She had already read it. “You cursed witch, don’t know what you really are—but this belongs to me now.” When I tried to take it back, she shoved me to the ground and kicked me. When the warden arrived, Marcy scratched herself until she bled and screamed that I attacked her. That night, the warden beat me mercilessly and locked me in a dark room crawling with rats. They nibbled at me all night. The next morning, as I dragged myself back to scrubbing floors, an Alpha in an expensive suit arrived at the orphanage. He was asking about a letter. And the warden handed it to him
